Many times over, residents of Carroll Avenue / Quebec Terrace have cited the lack of adequate night lighting as one of the most
pressing issues contributing to their discomfort in living in this community. As a next step in using art and design to help raise the quality of life for CAQT residents, Arts on the Block and the YMCA organized a walk-through of the area on Nov. 7 to assess first-hand where the lighting needs are greatest. About 20 individuals — residents, property owners, members of the Montgomery County Police Department, the State’s Attorney’s Office and lighting artists, among others — walked the entire area, pausing frequently to note and discuss our observations. Meeting back at the YMCA Community Center afterwards we prioritized, from our perspectives, where resources would be most effectively used. The list included the main (mosaic) stair area; the area around the YMCA; individual buildings, especially entryways and addresses, and the Quebec Terrace sidewalk area.
Very exciting!
